When I was in high school in Bangalore way back in the 70s, I was a class monitor in-charge of collecting "leave letters." This one sticks out in my memory: A fellow couldn't wear his usual school uniform because of the previous night's rain had left his uniform all wet and he didnt' have time to get it dry. So he couldn't come to school. His mother wrote the following note: " Since my pants are wet, I cannot come to school today. Signed...Smt. Seetamma."
